La Granja was born during the seventies, when its founder, José Leopoldo Burg H. finally brought to reality the idea of starting his own factory to produce frozen products.
After graduating and working two years with an international financial firm, he decided to apply his knowledge and ideals to create what is known today as Internacional de Desarrollo S.A., La Granja.
At the beginning of the seventies there where no companies engaged in the production of frozen food products for local consumption in Venezuela and for that matter in all of Latin-American. That however did not decrease the vision and incentive of the La Granja founder, who together with his college roommate, José Manuel Pardo, from the University of Southern California, and another friend, Gerd Reiserer, who worked as a food and beverage manager at Intercontinental Hotel chain, developed the frozen food sector in Venezuela.
This is how in 1971, International de Desarrollo SA (La Granja) is founded, positioning itself as the pioneer in frozen foods in Venezuela and, at that time, also in LatinAmérica.
The main headquarters of La Granja is located at the Nucleo Industrial Caroni in San José de Los Altos, Miranda State, Venezuela. Our facilities have 25,000 square meters of land, 14,500 meters of construction, 11,000 cubic meters of cold storage and refrigerated facilities. We have 5 production lines including facilities for beef, chicken, specialty products such as pizzas, cassava sticks and many other tropical and non tropical items.
We also have our distribution organization around the country and a fleet of 32 trucks, for short, medium and long range deliveries, all with refrigeration for proper temperature control. The Venezuelan consumer has been able to enjoy the high quality of the products manufactured at the La Granja facilities by Quick Freezing, the natural way to preserve foodstuff fresh, allowing the lasting effect of the nutritional and vitamin value of the product.
